Werder Bremen 2-1 RB Leipzig

Milot Rashica opens the scoring for the hosts from the spot | Nordi Mukiele with a late equaliser | Claudio Pizarro scores the winner just moments later

RBL had to settle for a last-minute defeat on the final matchday of the Bundesliga season, losing 2-1 to Werder Bremen.

After a cagey start with few chances for either team, it was Werder who took the lead. Dayot Upamecano was adjudged to have fouled Yuya Osako in the box, and Milot Rashica stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty. Leipzig's best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Bruma, but the winger's effort struck the left-hand post.
Die Roten Bullen made a bright start to the second half and nearly equalised from the spot themselves. Marco Friedl handballed inside the Werder eighteen yard box, but Bruma was unable to convert the resulting penalty. The visitors pressed on and finally got their goal in the 86th minute, when Nordi Mukiele poked home from a cross. The game looked destined to end 1-1 until veteran striker Claudio Pizarro scored a late winner for the hosts in the 88th minute. Leipzig's 15 game unbeaten streak finally came to an end at the full-time whistle.

This is not a cause for concern, however. With 66 points on the board, we finish our third Bundesliga season in third place - a commendable achievement.
