"The ball just wouldn't go in the net"

The thoughts of coach Ralf Rangnick, Tyler Adams, Willi Orban and Péter Gulácsi after the 0-0 draw vs. FC Augsburg.

Ralf rangnick:

  • "It was a tough game, as expected. We played too diagonally in the first half, but were more determined after the break, and had 3 or 4 really good chances. We just lacked a slice of luck and the necessary force to break Augsburg down.

Yussuf Poulsen missed out today, and his physicality would have done us some good. Augsburg have an injury list as well though, which is why Yussi's absence can't be a decisive factor."

At the end of the day, we've got to accept that we only picked up one point today. Providing we keep on winning away, we can maintain our two point gap over Gladbach. Now, we travel to Schalke to try and get our fifth away win in a row."

WILLI Orban:

  • "It's a frustrating result, because it could have been three points. We worked nonstop for 90 minutes, and found space, but lacked that final ball.

If we don't score from set-pieces, we've got to then try to score some other way. Nonetheless, it's good we kept another clean sheet and stayed strong at the back."

Tyler Adams:

  • "Augsburg were very strong defensively and we rarely managed to test their defence. Despite that, we still had a few good chances - the ball just wouldn't go in the net."

Peter Gulácsi:

  • "I think we've lost two point today. We've been able to gain enoguh experience of playing Augsburg, and we knew that it would be tough. We had to score. You don't get more chances than we did against a team that plays deep and is strong defensively. We needed to put away one or two of the chances we had. We were also unlucky and perhaps our finishing today wasn't clinical enough.

We go one match at a time. We've now had a few good away games in a row, so it's very important that we get some points in Gelsenkirchen next week, before the international break starts."
