"We really wanted to progress"

Ralf Rangnick, Marcel Halstenberg and Willi Orban react to the 2-1 DFB Pokal win over FC Augsburg.

RAlf Rangnick:

  • "We had saved ourselves for extra time. But as the match went on, I had the feeling that something would happen in the added 30 minutes. It's even nicer that we didn't have to go to penalties. The way the team reacted after conceding in injury time was the key to victory tonight."
Marcel Halstenberg scores the winning penalty to send RB Leipzig through.

Marcel Halstenberg:

  • "It was a beautiful moment - I knew I would score the penalty. The lads fought for 90 minutes, but then we conceded with the last kick of the game - that was really annoying.

But after that, we drew on our reserves and played for a win in extra time. It worked. We always firmly believed we would progress, and now we're in the DFB-Pokal semifinals."

Willi Orban:

  • "It's a nice feeling to progress to the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal, but we want to achieve more, of course. Today, our conviction was vital, and we had belief from the offset. We knew that it can be unpleasant playing in Augsburg. It was completely unnecessary to concede when we did - we weren't paying attention. Still, we then went on to show a reaction. We really wanted to progress."
