A place in the semi-finals is up for grabs, as Die Roten Bullen face Augsburg away on Tuesday evening in the DFB-Pokal (KO 20:45 CEST).
Ahead of the game, coach Ralf Rangnick gave his thoughts on the upcoming fixture, as well as a squad update.
- "The upcoming Pokal game will certainly feel like an old-fashioned cup tie, and our attitude on the pitch will depend on how the game unfolds. I definitely don't think that Augsburg will try to spend the match camped in our half. I imagine they will play a defensive line-up, and therefore we need to probe deep and have a certain wit in our play. I'm expecting a real battle out there.
We want to win the game without going to extra-time, especially because we then have an important match vs. Leverkusen next Saturday. Should the match pan out differently, we still have enough gas in the tank to go the distance in extra-time, or even in a penalty shootout.
Today's training session will decide how we start on Tuesday. I might make a couple of changes based on how well the players who started against Hertha Berlin recover. However, there won't be massive changes."
- Lukas Klostermann remains out, as the risk of aggravating his injury remains too high.
- Emile Smith Rowe and Dayot Upamecano remain long-term absentees.
