The captain isn't going anywhere soon! RB Leipzig have extended Willi Orban's contract by three years until June 2022. His previous contract was set to expire in 2019.
The 24-year-old has played for Leipzig since July 2015, and was part of the team that gained promotion to the Bundesliga. He was also crucial in Leipzig's campaign last year, in which they finished second in the top flight and gained entry into the Champions League.
Orban has captained RB Leipzig since the beginning of this season, and has made a total of 70 competitive appearances for the side.
Sporting director Ralf Rangnick:
"When Willi Orban came to us in the Summer of 2015, he was one of best players in the 2. Bundesliga and was showing immense potential. He's lived up to that, because now he'S arguably one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.
Willi was a leader from the very start, and thanks to his consistently strong performances for us, has lead us to promotion and even the Champions League.
As captain, Willi is a born leader and the face of our team. We couldn't be happier that we've signed him to a long term contract and can go forward into the next few years with him on our team."
"I'm really happy that we could agree to terms on a new contract. It was a great decision for me to move to Leipzig from Kaiserslautern in 2015 in order for me to further my career. Ralf Rangnick told me what he thought I could achieve back then, and it convinced me to join RB Leipzig. It's become a reality for me.
I've had two really successful years with Die Roten Bullen, and now I look forward to many more. We've already achieved a lot, but we've still got more we can do. I'm very proud that I can be a part of this club going forward into the foreseeable future."
