"We showed that we can compete at this level"

We gathered the thoughts from Die Roten Bullen after their 1-1 home draw with AS Monaco on an historic night of Champions League football

Ralph Hasenhüttl:

"We wanted to get points on the board today so we'll take the draw. However, we definitely could have done more today. It was a good first Champions League outing for us. Dayot Upamecano was the best defender on the pitch for me. In general, we gave very little away in defence. The goal we conceded was very unfortunate, both the timing and how it came about."

Willi Orban:

"It was a good game to start the competition with. The draw is okay, even though we could have done more. We could have been calmer in certain situations, but we showed that we can compete at this level. That gives us confidence for the next group stage matches."

Timo Werner:

"The atmosphere in the stadium gave me goosebumps - we really soaked it up. Of course we would have liked to have won, but Monaco defended very cleverly and we lacked the final punch in attack. But I think a 1-1 draw in our first Champions League appearance is a great result that we can all live with. However, Monaco were definitely beatable. We were a bit nervous and didn't play our best game."

Emil Forsberg:

"Of course it makes me very proud to have scored RB Leipzig's first Champions League goal. It was an incredible feeling and a very emotional moment. Unfortunately we conceded immediately after. Monaco were a very strong opponent - the draw is fair."

Peter Gulasci:

"We've waited a long time to listen to this anthem and we've dreamt of this day. We played a good enough game, we didn't risk too much and will take the point. We took some time to get into the game, but we had it under control. Monaco only had a few chances. Last year they were in the semi-finals, so a draw is a good result."

Kevin Kampl:

"We would have liked to have won, we certainly could have. But when you consider that most of the team were playing their first Champions League match, you can only pay them a compliment. Tonight, the majority of ufulfilled a dream. Of course we could have done things better, like in our transitional play moving forward, but that will come.
