Die Roten Bullen leave Augsburg empty-handed. Ralph Hasenhüttl's side were unable to taken any points from the first of two Bundesliga games this week, with a Michael Gregoritsch goal after four minutes enough for FCA to claim a 1-0 victory. Leipzig dominated possession, but the early opener allowed the hosts to sit back and look to counter.
RBL were limited to two concrete chances throughout the 90 minutes, with Timo Werner failing to connect properly with a snapshot in the first half, before Marcel Halstenberg saw a thunderous effort pushed over the bar by Marwin Hitz after the break. Yvon Mvogo had to make a couple of decent saves too, most notably from Philipp Max, but his teammates were unable to offer enough at the other end against deep-sitting opponents.
- Ralph Hasenhüttl made nine changes to the side held by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Yvon Mvogo was started in goal for RBL, while the back four was completely swapped over as Marcel Halstenberg, Marvin Compper, captain Willi Orban and Benno Schmitz came in. Bruma was another introduction in place of Emil Forsberg, while Naby Keïta and Konrad Laimer made way for Diego Demme and Marcel Sabitzer. Yussuf Poulsen was preferred to Jean-Kévin Augustin up front.
- Yvon Mvogo made his competitive debut for Die Roten Bullen.
- Marvin Compper and Benno Schmitz made their first appearances of the season.
