Last-16 of the Europa League in Leipzig! On Thursday evening at 21:05 CET, RB Leipzig's next round of the Europa League against Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg will kick off in the Red Bull Arena.
In the press conference before the game, Ralph Hasenhüttl and forward Emil Forsberg spoke about the upcoming opponent and current team news.
- "It is an absolute privilege to still be involved in European football at this late stage of the season! We have beaten a top side like Napoli to get to this point and we should be massively proud of what we have achieved and pleased that we are competitive in an international sphere. It is a great experience for us all."
Zenit St. Petersburg have a more-experience side than us. They have some very good individual players and are very dangerous in front of goal. Their style of play is clear but also robust. It will be tough for us to defend against them; them scoring 17 goals in six group stage matches was no mistake. Our biggest aim is to keep a clean sheet at home.
Because we have such a young defence, it is not all too surprising that we can occassionally make a few mistakes but if you want to progress in the Europa League then you need to be composed at the back. Against Napoli, despite the defeat in the second leg, we managed to do that quite well. We don't need to hide against Zenit. I am fully confident that we can cause an upset against them."
- "On Thursday, we are up against a side who have a lot of quality going forward. Zenit have some very experienced players, so we need to be right at the top of our game from the first minute.
We're expecting an intense game that is hard-fought by both sides. It will be a tough match but we're ready and are going out there to win - we have the qualty to do that as well!"
- Ademola Lookman is cup-tied, as he has already competed in the Europa League for Everton.
- Kevin Kampl has taken a knock to his knee and will not be fit for the match because of muscular problems.
- Referee: Ovidiu Hategan
