A point in Werder! Die Roten Bullen picked up a point after a crazy ending to the match in front of the 800 travelling RBL fans in the Weserstadion. Niklas Moisander scored to give the hosts a first-half lead and Ademola Lookman equalised before the final whistle blew to end the match at 1-1.
The hosts from Bremen made life difficult for Die Roten Bullen initially with a strong defensive performance. The Leipzig players struggled to make it into the Werder box and found it difficult to retain possession. On the other side of the pitch, Bremen put the Leipzig boys under pressure with good transitional play and set pieces. Finally, it was Niklas Moisander who scored in the 28th minute with a hard and low shot from a rebound to give Werder a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Die Roten Bullen came out of the dressing room fresher and more aggressive after the change of ends. Ademola Lookman scored the equaliser only five minutes after joining the action with the assist coming from Stefan Ilsanker (50’). Both teams ramped up the attacking pressure and there were shots left, right and centre after the equaliser. Despite many good chances, the match ended as a 1-1 draw.
Die Roten Bullen secured an important point in the final push of the season with a much-improved second-half performance!
Head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl made six changes to the starting XI from the midweek Europa League quarter-final second-leg game against Olympique Marseille. Timo Werner, Dominik Kaiser, Bernardo, Willi Orban, Kevin Kampl and Yussuf Poulsen were rotated back into the starting line-up.
Ademola Lookman scores his second goal of the season with his 1-1 equaliser.
