Back to Bundesliga! After Thursday’s elimination from the Europa League it’s time for #DieRotenBullen to return to league action on Sunday as they meet Werder Bremen in the Weser Stadion (18:00 CEST). 750 fans are expected to make the trip from Leipzig.
Ralph Hasenhüttl addressed the media in pre-match press conference to discuss Sunday’s game and the state of his squad.
"We are ambitious and we have really enjoyed our European adventure. It was a highlight and came at a high price. But it’s an issue for us anymore. It’s now all about getting as much as we can out of the remaining Bundesliga games.
Werder Bremen are a team that are flexible and deadly in attack. They have dragged themselves up from the bottom of the table under Florain Kohfeldt. The schedule of the two teams has been different of late. They have not played since a week Friday ago and we have played three games in a week. We must get ourselves together because it will not be an easy game.
We are determined and ready to put our plan for the remaining phase of the season into action. We will be battling with absolutely everything we have. It would be silly to write us off. We are going to fight! We can use the game to get the recent results out of our system. The boys will also need a bit of time."
Marcel Sabitzer dislocated his shoulder in the Europa League quarter-final second leg and will be out for a long period.
Dayot Upamecano pulled his left hamstring on Thursday and will be out of action for seven to ten days.
Timo Werner’s participation on Sunday is still in doubt thanks to a thigh problem.
Diego Demme is on the brink of a suspension having picked up four yellow cards this season.
Yussuf Poulsen played his 170th game for Die Roten Bullen on Thursday, making the 23-year-old the record appearance holder for Leipzig.
