“We struggled compared to recent games – that was down to our opponents. The knock which Bruma picked up in the warm-up meant that we had to make a last-minute change; Marcel Sabitzer made an almost cold start.
The victory was hard-earned, as we expected it to be. I’m delighted that we managed to keep a clean sheet. The match wasn’t pretty, but we can’t always put on a spectacle. We didn’t need to shine today, we just needed to secure the three points, which the boys did well. Now we have a three-day gap to refresh ourselves before the difficult DFB-Pokal match.”
“We weren’t as dominant as we wanted to be in the second half. It was important to keep a clean sheet. We can be proud of our performance. The new formation worked well with four at the back and we kept our shape well.
A very intense game awaits us on Wednesday in the DFB-Pokal – a blockbuster, which the fans can really enjoy. We’ll now catch our breath back and then prepare for the Bayern Munich match, so that we can show the best side of our football. We’ve proved in the last few games that we’re in good form.”
“Stuttgart sat very deep in the first half, meaning we had to work very hard to create our chances. In the second half we had a couple of good opportunities on the counter, and we probably should have extended our lead. Of course, Stuttgart were always going to throw everything at us in the closing stages, but we did well to keep them out, and deserved the win.
We couldn’t really have had a better week. We played three games, and won all three. But the tank will still need to be full ahead of Wednesday’s game! So now we need to recuperate and prepare for the game against Bayern. At home, we’ll want nothing less than a win.”
“It was an extremely tough and intense game that we can take a lot of positives away from ahead of our upcoming matches. In the second half we weren’t in control of the game as much as we would have liked. But overall it was a top performance from the team – and Sabi scored a cracking goal.
We now head into the Bayern game in a positive mindset, and we want to really take the game to them here at our home ground. It will be a very tough game, but we have confidence in ourselves to come away with a result.
