"We wanted to give Schalke more room and then use the space that created. We did that a lot better as the game went on. The team fought their way into thte game and showed a fantastic mentality. We brushed off the equaliser and won against a team that were unbeaten in 13 competitive matches.
We were able to bring Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen off the banc and add even more attackign impetus. The goals were invetiable in the end. I am proud of how the boys implemented our plan. I'd like to reserve special praise for Konrad Laimer, he played fantastically at full back, with a high tempo."
"It's a perfect start to the second half of the season. It was great for me to be back on the pitch - regardless of the position. The coach gave me the confidence and I think I repaid him.
The team helped me greatly to find myself and I felt very good. We didn't give away a single milimeter. Both goals in the second half came from brilliant play."
"We fought for these three points. It was tough because Schalke were aggressive, as expected. We recovered well from conceding the equaliser and showed our attacking strenghts. It feels very good to start the second half of the season with this result."
"We were deteremined to start the new year with a positive result - we did that. We set up well and then continued to attack going forward. We showed an unbelievable mentality and stayed positive, even after conceding. We worked hard and deserved to win. It feels good to be rewarded for the hard work we invested."
"We were prepared for the fight, we stood firm and gave little away. There was never any doubting our quality - despite the slight dip in December. The winter break has done a lot to help us feel fresh again.
It was a great top team performance and even the set piece we conceded has to be considered differently since we had quite a short team on the pitch today. We defended many other set pieces very well."
"It feels very good to start the year like that. We paid them back for the defeat earlier in the season. We played a fantastic game and deserved to win. It was a battle of attrition, but we gave our all until the end and showed our quality. Timo and I were able to give the team impetus off the bench."
