"We'll need a top performance against Schalke."

Ralph Hasenhüttl previews Saturday’s game with Schalke| Emil Forsberg (Abdomen muscles) und Marcel Halstenberg (Hand fracture) miss out through injury | Timo Werner set to return after illness.

The start of the Rückrunde under the floodlights! Die Roten Bullen will kick off the second half of their Bundesliga campaign against second-placed Schalke on Saturday evening at 18:30 CET.

Ralph Hasenhüttl provided a full squad update and gave his thoughts on this weekend’s opponents in Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

Ralph Hasenhüttl:

"We have used the last two weeks to good effect, and prepared well on the training pitches. The boys are fresh and have enjoyed the sessions. The break did everyone good. Now we are looking forward to getting the season going again against a top team in a top game. If I was a fan, I’d be going to the game.
"Schalke are the second best team in Germany at the moment – and they totally deserve that. They have not lost in 13 games. They are a team who are difficult to beat and have a fantastic mentality. We have to create more chances than we did in the reverse fixture and find the target. We need a top performance!

"They are very difficult to break down and they know how to stay compact. We must be wary of the quick counter attack and not let our guard down at set pieces. We have learned in the last few weeks to stand firm against such threats.”

Squad Update:

Emil Forsberg continues to suffer with an abdomen strain and will miss out.
Marcel Halstenberg is back training again after fracturing his hand, but Saturday will come too soon for the defender.
Timo Werner is an option agains after recovering from an illness.
Naby Keita is one yellow card away from a ban (4 yellow cards).
