Leipzig suffered their fourth defeate of the season away to Hoffenheim on matchday 14. Die Roten Bullen succumbed to a dominant TSG second-half performance in front of 28,299 fans at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
RBL's good start to the game was cut short by a 13th minute Amiri goal, the Hoffenheim number 18 driving the ball low and hard past Gulasci from Rupp's cushioned pass. The rest of the half was an even affair with both teams showing promise going forward but not being able to find the crucial pass in the final third.
Ralph Hasenhüttl switched it up at half time, bringing on Bruma and Stefan Ilsanker - making his return to the matchday squad after a toe injury - for Dayot Upamecano and Lukas Klostermann. Upamecano was taken off as a precaution.
It was Hoffenheim who took the initiative after the break however. Serge Gnabry latched onto a long ball that flew over the heads of the defence before cooling slotting past Gulasci. Ten minutes later he added a third in spectacular fashion, lobbing the goalkeeper from just inside Leipzig's half. This goal effectively killed the game, but Mark Uth piled further misery onto the away side with an 87th minute strike to complete the win.
Willi Orban was left out of the matchday squad as a precaution and replaced by 18-year old Ibrahim Konate in central defence. It was the only change to the win against Bremen and saw Konate line up alongside Upamecano at the heart of the back four.
Stefan Ilsanker made his return after seven weeks out with a broken toe. The defensive player last turned out for Leipzig in the Dortmund game on October 14th. Ilsanker came on at half-time, replacing Upamecano, who came off with a thigh problem.
