Leipzig’s first away game of 2018 comes this weekend at 15:30 CET against SC Freiburg, who are currently 14th in the table.
Head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl spoke about the opposition and the team news in his press conference with the encounter just two days away.
The squad’s mood has been great after the win at the weekend and the players have really enjoyed themselves in training. I am happy. We have been able to prepare well for the upcoming fixture.
Freiburg have been on a good run recently, being six games unbeaten. But in the last year and a half, we have been known to go on a few good runs of form. We know it will be tough, but perhaps that record will be our lucky charm to help push us over the line against a strong opponent.
SC Freiburg plays a possession game with one-touch passing after winning the ball back. They like to develop chances by playing from the back and progressing forward from there. Tactically, they are a very malleable team that is able to adjust during a game. Above all, they have a strong mentality, which will be a real advantage for them at home. We have to be ready for everything.”
Emil Forsberg undertook a fitness test today. However the striker is still not free of abdominal muscle pain and will likely miss the match.
Marcel Halstenberg is back training with the team after his knuckle fracture, but will not be fit for the match on Saturday.
Naby Keita is suspended for the Freiburg match after picking up his fifth yellow card against Schalke.
