“In the first half, the lads were a little overwhelmed by the occasion. It was clear to see that being the young team we are, we need to gain some experience. After the break we started playing our own game, playing good football and enjoying some nice passages of play. We attacked with more courage. However when it came to finishing, despite having the majority of the chances, we just lacked the accuracy.”
"In the second half we noticed that if we play confidently, we can keep up and create chances even in the UEFA Champions League. We also saw today, however, that we still have a lot to learn."
"Obviously it's a shame because we didn't really get a foothold in the game to begin with. After about 20 minutes, we started to have more control over the game so the second goal was frustrating to concede just before the break."
Once you go two goals down here in Istanbul, it’s obviously difficult to get anything from the game. Nevertheless, we came out much stronger in the second half and could certainly build on the reaction we showed."
"We didn’t play the way we’d set out to in the first half. Not at the back and not going forward. Then we had a two-goal deficit to catch up in the second half, and despite putting on the pressure and creating good chances, we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. Still, we can take positives out of our performance in the second half, we can build on it."
“At the start of the game, we were a bit too intimidated by our surroundings and that affected us. We couldn’t press Besiktas but, after conceding, we got into the game more and became more aggressive.
"We have to work on our finishing as you can’t survive at this level without being clinical. However, we can take a lot from this game, even though we lost."
“We played well in the second half and created lots of chanced but we simply couldn’t finish them. We all have to learn from today. The atmosphere here was incredible but I didn’t feel intimidated as such. We showed after the break that we can compete in these sorts of environments but we just couldn’t score today."
