"I have so much faith in our team!"

Ralph Hasenhüttl discusses our Europa League quarterfinal opponents and the upcoming match against FC Bayern München | Fitness concerns for Marcel Sabitzer | Sunday's home match against reigning champions a sell-out.

Under the floodlights against the record champions! After booking our spot in the Europa League quarterfinals, die Roten Bullen face the next big task: FC Bayern München in the Bundesliga (18:00 CET) on Sunday evening.

Speaking to the press ahead of the match, head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl discusses our Europa League opponents, Sunday's match and our current squad.

Ralph Hasenhüttl on...

 ... Olympique Marseille:

"The match against Zenit was a real shock to the system. But I'm absolutely delighted that we are into the next round. We have written another chapter in the history of this club. There are just eight teams left in the Europa League - and we're one of them. We can be proud of that! We're not just contributing a great deal to German football, but also to this club's reputation on a European stage.

Olympique Marseille are a strong team. I would have prefered to play away first, but I can live the draw as it is. Marseille are an exciting opponent and a chance to progress further. We not an unknown entity in Europe anymre. I'm happy for our fans that they can look forward to another interesting team coming to Leipzig."

... Sunday's opponents FC Bayern:

"I have four wishes for Sunday evening. To have 11v11 by the final whistle. To keep a clean sheet, while scoring ourselves. And the fourth wish is that the whistle is blown as soon as we score! It's always a highlight to play Bayern. I can guarantee that our team will give a good account of themselves in front of a home crowd. It will be a firey game!

We're facing a strong opponents. But we will be prepared with a strategy to make things tricky for Bayern. After such an intensive match on Thursday, it's very helpful for my team mentally to have the league's top side coming up next. Against opponents like this, the general feeling of excitement is a lot different.

There are barely any weakness to exploit with Bayern. Since Jupp Heynckes returned, Bayern have marched ahead at their own pace. It's no coincidence that nobody can keep up with them. I hope that on Sunday we can show what we are capable of. I have so much faith in this team."

  • Doubts on whether or not Marcel Sabitzer (back problem) can play.
  • Emil Forsberg has recovered from his knock against Zenit St. Petersburg and is available for selection against Bayern.
  • Marco Fritz will referee the match.
